AOC AGON AGK700: Correct Rei Gaming

With the AGON AGK700 manufacturer AOC had presented a premium keyboard for 170 euros. Meinmmo has tested the gaming keyboard and reveals you how well the device is in practice.

The essentials in brief:

The AGON AGK700 is a full-size keyboard with red cherry switches. The device also offers palm rest and additional macro buttons. The EIA for the keyboard is officially at 179.99 euros. In the test, the keyboard can convince with excellent processing and precise switches. The strangely placed macro buttons and the key caps cloud the overall picture.

Which keyboard is? The AOC AGON AGK700 is a gaming keyboard with 115 programmable buttons. Under the buttons either Cherry MX-Blue or Red switches are installed. AOC is focused on competitive gamers with its AGON AGK700.

Our test pattern relies on the red cherry switches. Red switches have no click and are not tactile, but linear. Tactil means that you can feel the button when it triggers. Linear, on the other hand, means that a key from the press to the trigger feels the same.

How did we test? In the test we used the US layout. Officially, it should also give a de-layout. The layout does not affect the evaluation of the gaming keyboard.

AOC AGON AGK700 in detail

In the following section we introduce you to the gaming keyboard in detail. We are committed to the following aspects:

Scope of delivery Design and construction Processing the software

Scope of delivery

Which accessories are there? Next to the keyboard is the leather-related palm rest in the box. Next to it are four red buttons (WASD) with a key lifter in the box. You can swap the keys directly.

Design and construction

What does the keyboard look like? The AOC Agon AGK700 gaming keyboard offers 115 programmable buttons with red cherry switches. The switches are installed in a stable aluminum housing, which gives the button a robust and valuable feeling.

The keyboard is otherwise kept in a simple gray-black, with some red accents at certain keys. The manufacturer s logo is also restrained at the upper left edge.

On the back there is a USB pass through function as an additional USB port. Here you can connect another USB device to your PC. On the front is a magnetic, removable wrist pad with leather surface.

The RGB lighting is set on its own system. The colors can be synchronized with certain gaming monitors and other periphery of AOC. In this way, all devices light up color in harmony.

Which keys does the keyboard offer? In addition to the usual keyboard keys, left and different special keys are attached to the top. At the top, 7 faster buttons are attached, with which you can mute the sound or open directly to the Windows Explorer.

On the left side of the keyboard are in black 6 macro keys that you can freely occupy. All buttons, even the macro and special keys, are illuminated on the keyboard.

processing

We like this: Already when unpacking the gaming keyboard you can feel the comparatively high weight of the device, which gives the keyboard to the user a robust feeling and a first valuable impression. Both the aluminum housing and the palm rest underline the high-quality first impression.

The USB A cable on the back of the keyboard is thick and sheathed, also affects robust and value.

AOC AGON Tournament Grade Gaming Mouse and Keyboard Combo - AGK700 & AGM700 (2021 Unbox and Review) The magnetic mechanism of the palm rest is inside the support, whereby the wear is reduced to a minimum. The media control wheel is made of metal and feels very high quality.

We do not like this: AOC sets ABS button caps at its AOC Agon AGK700. This works for a high quality keyboard with an EIA of 180 euros a little inappropriate. Because the caps of the keyboard are quickly greasy.

But here you have to note that at the current time, the few manufacturers of PBT key caps build with work on their gaming keyboards or buy EXRA PBT key caps (such as Hyperx or Razer). Since the keyboard is conventional cherry switches, you can always build any PBT key caps on the keyboard.

AOC AGON AGK700 Software

We like this: The G-Tools app from AOC is clearly structured and meaningfully structured. Although the software does not wins a prize for your design, but it is appropriate and all functions are behind clearly designated windows. The software also reacts quickly and is reactive and is not so lazy as Razers Synapse software. Also on additional functions such as streaming or gaming recordings, the G-Tools software renounces.

We do not like that: In some fields of the software, the text is far too long and is not completely displayed. This affects strange, the missing text can be viewed with a hosts over the box. But that is actually a problem of the German language version. In English, the software looks reasonable.

In practice

In this area we introduce you to how the keyboard suggests in the practice test. We enter the ergonomics and handling. We also look at how to tap and gamble with the buttons and what opportunities offer with the keyboard in practice. We explain the following points:

Ergonomics and handling The buttons, haptics and volume Macro features

Ergonomics and handling

AOC installed in its high-end keyboard ABS keys that feel comfortable among your fingers. The buttons remind us of similar gaming representatives, such as the Roccat Pyro and the Fnatic Streak, which set to similar gray-black ABS key caps.

The buttons make under the fingers a pleasant and well-valued impression. The palm rest is absolutely secure by the magnetic closure and can only be moved with effort. The material is soft and the palms are stable.

The medium wheel is made of metal and feels high quality and turns well. The remaining macro and special keys have a pleasant size, so you can reach them quickly in the fight. The left special keys are somewhat lower than the remaining buttons and could have been slightly higher for better ergonomics.

The lighting is also a positive feature of the keyboard. All buttons are well lit and also from a side or oblique view all buttons are readable. The letters and numbers on the keyboard are big enough, so they are also clearly read in a dark room.

Above all, the special and macro buttons can also be seen in the dark well, which has liked much better compared to the Logitech G815.

Buttons, Haptics and Volume

AOC installed red cherry switches. These are linear switches. This means that pressing the buttons requires less force, but you do not stop when the key is activated. This is the case for blue switches, which clearly click.

The in-house G-Tools app can display the times of the keys. In the fastest case there is a delay of 16 ms, on average we were between 30 and 60 ms. This is within the speed of similar gaming keyboards. The Razer Ornata Chroma comes here on average to 35 ms.

As with each mechanical keyboard, you can also hear the AGON AGK700 clearly when tapping and gambling. If you press a button, you also hear a light metallic reverberation next to the usual keystroke. When gambling with headphones, the sound is not perceptible, but you want to tap with boxes or thus want to tap a text, the metallic noise could perceive as a fault.

In practice, the keyboard for gaming and especially fast games such as Apex Legend is very good. The keys react quickly and the hands are pleasantly on the palm rest. The macro keys on the left edge are slightly too low and the Mute button slightly away from the upper right edge.

macro functions

Like us: The game mode is also helpful. Here you can set yourself whether you want to disable the WIN button or want to switch WASD and arrow keys. That works pretty well and the change of functions is very easy.

The dedicated macro keys on the left edge can also be occupied quickly and easily. The macro editor integrated in the G-Tools is to be used to getting used to, but works without problems.

We do not like it : Overall, there are too little tooltips for users within the software. We had to click through the macro editor and try different things. This makes the Swarm software from Roccat better, which has a tool tip on each setting.

Conclusion: High quality gaming keyboard for professional gamers

For whom is the gaming keyboard suitable? With the Agon series, manufacturer AOC is a professional gamer. For 180 euros, you will always get an extremely high-quality gaming keyboard with a sturdy housing, a pleasant palm rest and a clear software. The additional special and macro buttons and the additional USB port complete the positive overall picture.

Vesters or persons looking for a keyboard for the HomeOffice should rather access a keyboard with blue or brown switches. These provide a clear feeling when activating the button and feel more precise when tapping. Examples would be the Logitech G815 and the Roccat Vulcan 121. For better ergonomics, we would even advise the TKL variant of the Vulcan.

Which alternatives are there?

The Logitech G815 offers you a similarly high processing and blue switches. These are special low-profile switches, which should be well suited for writing well. The lighting of the keyboard is a bit worse. Roccats Vulcan 121 offers you a high-quality workmanship and precise key switches for around 150 euros. Compared to the AGK700, however, you will not get here neither dedicated macro buttons a USB port on the back. For that you get a unique design. Corsair K100 RGB offers you opto-mechanical switches that should be much more durable than the cherry switches. The keyboard is also very high quality and offers you better macro keys than the AGON AGK700.
