Ahahaha, do you still remember? On April 1, 2022, I spread the April Fool's joke that Blizzard's people skip the next logical classic version of the online role -playing game - WoW Wrath of the Lich King Classic - and publish WoW Cataclysm Classic instead. Of course it didn't come as you know. The WoW makers will launch the Classic version of Wotlk as early as 2022 and you don't have to worry that this would miss you.
- We have to talk about Cataclysm Classic! Now!
- "Classic" is not a guarantee for "cash"
- better discuss now than ever!
To do this, the developers work on the next adventure of the "Modern Wow", on Dragon Flight. The near future of the MMORPG is secured, so it seems. But does it not seem a little strange to you that Game Director Ion Hazzikostas puts the term WoW Cataclysm Classic in your mouth as part of the press tour for Wotlk Classic and Dragon Flight **? Especially now when it comes to the other two versions?!
We have to talk about Cataclysm Classic! Now!
In advance, before we devote ourselves to the entire meaning of the discussion of Cataclysm Classic, I have to mention that I would never have accepted even remotely that this Classic version would be seriously considered by Blizzard. Why?
I didn't find Cataclysm shit, but many members of the WoW community. It was also easy, Cataclysm was the first expansion that did not deliver at such a high level. There was no new continent, but the old ones were revised and new areas were expanded. Technically, the world was streamlined to death. In terms of content, the end game lacked employment. One should not forget that Cataclysm also brought a lot of good: the focus of the stories of the new zones was on emotions; There was drama and humor alike. Cataclysm had impressive zones visually as well as in terms of content - and also raids! The fire country, the bastion, the pitch swing descent! The boss fights offered some super cool mechanics. I still think of Cho'gall and the chaos, atramedes and the gongs. Yes, even to the dragon soul and death -swinging air combat. Cataclysm stands not only for recycling, but also for innovative raid mechanics. Source: WoW Cataclysm Nevertheless: Cataclysm is adhered to the ugly recycling. I liked Cataclysm very much. But I always thought a Classic version of it is extremely unlikely. Cataclysm was not particularly popular and changed the world from scratch. With Mists of Pandaria, the talent trees flew out of the game. These are two of the big points that justify the existence of WoW Classic, Classic BC and Classic Wotlk.
"Classic" is not a guarantee for "cash"
Why Blizzard does Classic server is clear like Kloßbrühe. The demand for something that arouses the old feelings again, the nostalgia tickles, was gigantic. The success of WoW (buy now) was correspondingly great. Also because Classic was no longer playable in the form. But not every classic player has already taken Burning Crusade Classic and on some servers the community is already groaning because there are no more players. And since WoW Classic and Burning Crusade Classic have been there at the same time, and at the latest when Wotlk Classic is added, the community is fiber into more and more individual parts.
More and more versions of WoW have to be looked after at the same time. More and more communities. The focus is flute. What currently works faster for the cash register, i.e. sounds profit, is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain in the long term. Classic with the season of the championship, plus classic legacy servers. Then Burning Crusade. Then Wotlk. Then modern wow. And then Cataclysm? When is the end of the flagpole reached?
better discuss now than ever!
As already mentioned, I was surprised that Ion Hazzikostas wanted to discuss with the WoW community about how the "problems" could be solved with a Cataclysm Classic. Now. In the fairway of the announcements of Wotlk Classic and WoW: Dragon Flight? One might think that would have overthrown. The discussion is super important! The WoW makers are doing well to clarify the meaningfulness and demand for Cataclysm as early as possible in order to decide whether the investment of time and developer resources will be worthwhile. Udum is a single meme - or rather a tribute to Indiana Jones. But: this is also coherent! Source: WoW Cataclysm
I believe that in the end a negative judgment will be made, i.e. that the retro train with the end of Wotlk Classic will have left. I don't say that because I would not want to experience Cataclysm or especially Mists of Pandaria again. But I think that the general interest in the "more modern" wow, which has started with the Cataclysm upheavals, is limited. And then I would like to have the WoW makers reflect on what brings them the most. With Dragon Flight you already want to take easy, small steps back to the Wow roots.
Overall, I think a discussion about WoW 2.0 with a fresh, unloaded engine and more design freedoms is more sensible and attractive. WOW can simply not fulfill many wishes of the fans because the engine is too old, complicated and overloaded; It starts with the size of the standard pressure bag. If you want to advance the WoW brand, you have to think about a new future via more radical steps. Of course, it depends... whether it is in the interest of Blizzard.
